Connemara Smokehouse
The Connemara Smokehouse Économusée & Visitor Centre specialises in producing Irish wild smoked salmon, Irish organic smoked salmon and Irish line caught smoked tuna. As Connemara’s longest established Smokehouse, this is a fascinating location to visit, take a tour and purchase a great array of traditionally hand-prepared seafood products. Connemara Smokehouse Summer Tours take place on scheduled days in June, July and August. Booking is advisable. A tour of the Connemara Smokehouse takes approx. 45 minutes. Graham or Nicholas will take you behind the scenes and show the filleting of salmon & explain the salting and smoking techniques. Then you will see the hand-slicing and packing of the Irish smoked salmon all the way to the finished product. You will also enjoy a tasting of our fantastic Organic Smoked Salmon. It’s educational, fun and delicious. The Connemara Smokehouse is located right on the water’s edge of the Wild Atlantic Way at Bunowen Pier, near Ballyconneely. The surrounding area has exceptional views of the Twelve Bens mountain range and the castle of Connaught’s historic Pirate Queen, Grainne Mhoal (Grace O’Malley).

Killary Fjord Boat Tours
In the heart of Connemara and offering some spectacular scenery, this 90 minute sightseeing trip of the Killary Fjord on a modern catamaran is not be missed and perfect for all ages. Killary Fjord is Ireland’s only fjord and is located close to Leenane in North Connemara. The long, calm sheltered inlet boasts some of the finest uninterrupted scenery in the West of Ireland. Take in the mountainsides with steep slopes, a famine path, and small villages all virtually unspoilt. A tour on this stunning fjord is a memorable experience with frequent dolphin sightings (but not guaranteed)!

Killary Sheep Farm
Killary Sheep Farm is a traditional working mountain farm with approx 200 ewes and lambs roaming freely in the mountain overlooking Killary Fjord, on the Wild Atlantic Way. On our farm we run mainly blackhead horny sheep which are most suited to survive on the mountains during the harsh winters. At Killary Sheep Farm visitors can view sheepdog demonstrations, sheep sheering demonstrations and turf cutting demonstrations. Visitors of all ages are welcome. Demonstrations and walks are held at 11.am, 1pm, 3pm Tuesday to Sunday or by appointment: 087 298 8051. Open from 1st April to 30th September. Please call in advance to avoid disappointment. Kylemore Abbey & Victorian Walled Gardens is without doubt one of the must-sees on your visit to Clifden and the Connemara region.
